We should also mention our specialist areas of Construction and Art & Design who achieved some impressive outcomes.

Congratulations to some of our very best performers who achieved the following outcomes:

UTC staff are now working hard on destinations. Many of our students have secured their places to university but quite a large number are in the process of attending interviews for apprenticeships and we will continue to support them throughout the summer.

GCSE Results August 2019

We were pleased to receive our GCSE results and noted that we have maintained the improvements made last year, improving further in many areas of Attainment 8

Particularly high achievers with an incredible set of results include:

A** is a 9, A* an 8 etc…, some grades still appear as letters, in the interest of consistency we have presented as follows…
Kaleem Ahmed                 3 A**,4 A*, A, B
Jamie Lee-Hurst               1 A**, 3 A, 5 C
Daniel Mani                       1 A**, 1A*, 5 A, 2 B
Aaron Patel                        2 A**, 4 A, 2 B, C
Niamh Southwell              1 A**, 2 A*, 3 A, 2 B, C

One of the reasons that our students make the decision to attend a UTC is the improved offer around employability. In fact of our Year 11's 43% of students have continued to study at our sixth form, 47% have secured a post 16 provisions in FE Colleges  and 8% in Apprenticeships. We are proud that 24% of our Year 13 leavers have obtained an apprenticeship, 13% in employment and 51% in Higher Education.

This years’ publication is based on the 2018-19 cohort at Thomas Telford UTC. Progress 8 measures do not tell the full story of what a UTC offers. Progress 8 is measured from 11 to 16 and when students come to us they have had three years elsewhere, often not very successfully. Students make really good progress from 14-16 while they are with us. Our specialism subjects carry less weighting within this measure and like many UTCs and newly opening schools, the first cohort had within it a number of students for whom individual outcomes have a significant effect on whole school figures. Subsequent cohorts are more typical of what you would find in other schools but the effect of a very small number on overall figures can be large. We are proud of the UTC’s significant improvement since 2017 figures and our tracking data indicates continued improvement as we move forwards.

We are immensely proud of what is being achieved and know that the students themselves believe the move to the UTC was definitely the right choice. Part of our mission, as defined by employer sponsors, is in the development of the ‘whole person’, improving soft skills, confidence, determination and overall employability. This, coupled with our specialist curriculum, is what makes us the right next step towards a potential career in innovation, design or construction.
