What is being described as the most exciting collaboration in education for years sees the high performing Thomas Telford School partnering up with the West Midlands UTC in creating a new admission point for Year 7 students.

Thomas Telford University Technical College has been established to merge the strengths of both schools to provide the young people of Wolverhampton and the surrounding area a unique combination of excellent academic achievement and first-class preparation for the future.

Thomas Telford School has been described as a remarkable school and a beacon of excellence. Its students regularly achieve the highest outcomes of any state school in the country. The West Midlands UTC which is judged to be a good school with outstanding features is now in the process of moving into the Thomas Telford Multi Academy Trust and aims to further strengthen its appeal by benefitting from the practices that have led to the success of the Shropshire based school.

West Midlands UTC will bring its own qualities to the table. Its curriculum sets it apart from many schools with a technical offer around its specialism of innovate, design and build. Employers contribute to school life providing its young people with mentors, employer-led projects and work experience opportunities. Last year nearly 50% of its leavers secured apprenticeships.

Students at Thomas Telford University Technical College will have access to a broad and balanced curriculum with greater opportunities to focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) subjects. The school is due to expand with a new state of the art building for its 1050 students.

The Principal Av Gill said "I am honoured to be a part of the most exciting development in secondary education in Wolverhampton for many years. I am confident that this flagship establishment will become the gold standard for education with students making fantastic academic progress whilst developing employability skills".

Sir Kevin Satchwell, Headmaster of Thomas Telford School said "Being able to provide opportunities for more young people from Wolverhampton to receive the type of educational experience in their own City, which is currently offered at Thomas Telford School will be a life defining experience for many more students. Aspirations will be fully met whether it be potential for Oxbridge, graduate apprenticeship or straight into employment."
