Parent & Visitor Code of Conduct

At Thomas Telford UTC

Thomas Telford UTC believes all staff have the right to work in an environment free from abusive, threatening, or violent behaviour. This includes inappropriate language, shouting, abusive comments, threatening behaviour, intimidation, and physical aggression. We ask all parents, carers, and visitors to communicate respectfully with staff at all times, including during telephone conversations, meetings, and visits to the UTC site.

Expected Standards of Conduct

Respectful Communication

  • Use polite and appropriate language
  • Treat staff and visitors respectfully
  • Raise concerns calmly and constructively
  • Work collaboratively with the UTC

Unacceptable Behaviour

  • Abusive or aggressive language
  • Threatening or intimidating behaviour
  • Shouting or harassment
  • Physical aggression or violence

Any form of physical aggression towards staff may be reported directly to the police.

UTC administration and reception staff will always aim to work positively with parents and visitors to help resolve concerns appropriately.

Staff may issue up to 2–3 warnings before terminating a telephone call where abusive or aggressive language is used.

Please note: All calls to and from Thomas Telford UTC are recorded.

Warning Structure

First Occasion

Incidents are recorded by the Principal’s PA along with statements from staff involved. The matter is treated as an isolated incident unless further issues arise.

Second Occasion

Further incidents involving abusive or unacceptable behaviour may result in a formal letter being issued by the Principal.

Third Occasion

Repeated inappropriate behaviour may lead to a formal meeting with a Senior Leader to discuss conduct and expectations.

Consequences

Serious or repeated incidents of abusive behaviour may result in:

  • Restriction from the UTC site
  • Limited communication through specific channels only
  • Termination of telephone conversations
  • Referral to the police where appropriate

These measures are intended to protect staff, students, visitors, and the wider school community.
