UTC Students Make Their MarkMon, 04 Sep 2023Students at Thomas Telford UTC have received their GCSE results, and there are many reasons to celebrate. The Principal of the UTC, Av Gill, said, "Congratulations to our Year 11 cohort who received their GCSE results today. We know how hard our wonderful students have worked, and we are extremely proud of them. 84% of students achieved at least 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, including English and Mathematics, and 64% at grade 5 or above. There were some standout individual performances, but I would like to commend all of the cohort for aspiring to achieve their potential; this is despite ongoing disruption to learning. However, it should be emphasised that UTC students maintained extremely high levels of attendance throughout the pandemic and were justly rewarded. We are a truly comprehensive school where over 50% of our intake are from disadvantaged backgrounds, yet we do not allow this to act as a barrier to progress."Incredible Staff"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our incredibly hard-working staff for not only providing first-class teaching but also for creating a caring and supportive environment for our students."T-Levels"Many students will remain in our Sixth Form to study A-levels. Others will take a slightly different path by completing BTECs or even the brand-new T-level qualification, which comes with significant input from employers and aligns with the UTC's vision of preparing its students for the world of work. We are one of the few schools in the country to offer T-levels. This year's T-level cohort nearly all achieved a Distinction or Merit and are now embarking on the next stage of their journey, which for many includes high-quality apprenticeships, with others going on to university."
