When I attended the UTC I didn’t know anybody. Since leaving, I have made 4 or 5 genuine friends who I speak to most days. We used to play football together every break and lunch time and the memories I have from my time there are nothing but positive!
I went to ‘The Dormston School’ in Dudley to study my GCSE’s. On results day I visited and completed a sign up to West Midlands UTC studying: Art and design, Maths, Product Design and Construction. During Year 12 we had a talk from Overbury informing us about a foundation apprenticeship scheme they had running. I kept in touch with Overbury and during my summer holidays I did two weeks work experience. I was then contacted by Overbury during my studies and they offered me a conditional offer for an apprenticeship in Construction Management. I graduate from Wolverhampton University after 4 years of study in June 2022.
I plan to continue working for Overbury to continue my career in project management. I am also looking to study for a master’s degree.

Recalling my time at the UTC I gained friends which I am still close with today, in similar stages of our careers together, giving me a great support system. While additionally, I was allowed the opportunity to speak at the House of Lords regarding the school and the Springfield Brewery Campus. A memory which will live with me forever and bring back fond memories throughout the couple of years spent here completing my A-Levels.
Firstly, do some which you enjoy to do even if it is something which isn’t perceived as your best area. Don’t be afraid to try something different and new, sometimes new can be a good thing. This period this only a small portion of your education/working life so don’t stress if you don’t conform with the norms of society and going down the ‘normal’ path which people should be taking. If something else works better for you, then go for it. At this or any stage there is no problem in broadening your horizons, everything will come full circle and work itself out in the end.
While completing my A-Level at the UTC I applied to study Architecture at a range of different universities, having my ambitions set on attending the University of Liverpool. Of which I managed to get into my first choice, ready for the next chapter of my education. This resulted in me studying my Bachelor’s degree at the university from 2018 to 2021, even through dealing with COVID I finished through my degree. Gaining an interview with a local firm which I applied through sending my CV to them, of which I was offered a contract for a year placement. With the option to further explore another year with them should I had chosen too. The practise deals in a range of different sectors, specialising in Healthcare projects but is no stranger to commercial and residential developments.
At present I am waiting to go back to university to complete my masters’ degree (Part 2) however, before I complete that I am going to be fulfilling a second year away from university. By doing this I am to gain a greater experience in a different sector of project, with the first year of my placement mainly spent completing projects for the NHS. With the aim for this extra year to expose myself to residential and commercial projects on a range of scales.
